The inside scoop:
As an ex-employee of America's Best, I can say the company is no greater than the negative reviews. Yes, the advertising for the company is honest because you CAN get two pairs of glasses for seventy bucks; however, it does not present an accurate picture of the pricing and is not clear. If you have a high prescription, want coatings/warranties, etc. the price goes up significantly. Because of this, many people come up to the front desk throwing a temper tantrum about false advertising. It doesn't make it any better that employees are trained to provide as basic of information over the phone as possible. E.g. try not to break down prices for the customer because if the customer sees the price increase they might not come in, whereas if you "trick" the customer into thinking they can get by cheap then it will be harder for them to say no by the time you have them in the store. Also, employees are told not to offer trial contacts unless the patient has had a prescription change. The store has to sell a certain percentage of its own brand of contacts and this is why it's virtually impossible to get written out for a brand like Acuvue on the first try. This makes the day awfully pleasant when people come in complaining all day long. Additionally, employees are taught to push people into purchasing extra features and the visual field test because the opticians get commission from this!! The reason people go to this place in the first place is because they don't want to spend the money or they don't have the money. Sometimes the staff are crabby, you're right. This is probably because they are paid c@!p and spend half the day watching their back so that the female manager Cassandra does not pull them into the office to yell at them for not answering the phone in 3 rings. Management in this place is a joke. I have never had such unqualified bosses. The store is slow and wait time is long because it is skeleton staffed and the general manager gets bonuses according to the number of leftover hours on the schedule each week. Most of the girls who work there truly care about their job and the patient; but it is very difficult to help the patient out when the boss is continually making you look like an idiot in front of customers or avoiding giving you correct training on insurance, etc. Most importantly to the customer: The product is not bad if you go with the premium lens coatings and brand name frames. (The Vogue, Guess, Ray Ban, etc. frames are much cheaper than other optical places and of the same quality.) However if you go in and get the cheaper frames they will likely lose a screw every few weeks, lenses will fall out, and the metal is complete c@!p. You might pay for the polycarbonate lenses but sometimes the lab does such a horrible job that they come back no thinner than plastic and you've payed an extra 135 bucks for them! Here's a kicker: If the lab breaks a frame that America's Best only sells one of, you can't even get your glasses in the frame you picked and you must pick a different frame. There's also no way to put an order on rush and that means waiting a full month for your glasses. Last of all, National Vision Inc. uses outsourcing and has labs in China and Mexico and Canada..... So maybe it should be called "China's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses"?

Bad Customer Service:
I get my contacts and glasses from here and its not that great. I wouldnt recommend it. They have horrible customer service. The staff is usually crabby and even with an appointment you still end up waiting awhile. The prices are reasonable
