Great Room for the Money:
Great Room for the Money
The apartment was big and nice. Bed was good, large flat screen TV, large room with lots of space. Nice plants was growing into balcony on the 14th Street studio, with a garden views. Service was good.
Don't understand some bad reviews our experience was really good.

Do not stay at the Antique Cafe:
First off, I have to stress for anyone looking at these reviews, that it is essential that under any circumstances you do not book at the Antique Cafe Bed and Breakfast.

It began when my partner booked our trip to NY and also booked the apartment in advance by 2 months through the Antique Cafe B&B. The owner took the money from our personal credit credit card in advance by 1 month which was not agreed to in the documentation and without my authorization. I thought was unusual and contacted the owner who assured me that this was a clerical error so I agreed that this was fine.

When we arrived in NY to pick up the keys for our 5 night stay the owner was not available and the staff had no idea what we were talking about. We waited for about an hour for the owner to appear, when he did appear he profusely apologized and advised us that the roof had fallen in on our apartment and that he was very sorry

He advised us that we should book in to the holiday inn for 3 nights whilst the apartment was being fixed and he would reimburse us for this amount immediately when we came back 3 days later.

We returned 3 days later and the owner was not at the cafe as agreed to previously. His business partner stated that the apartment had now be rented out to some other people and that he could not get in contact with the owner, and that we should come back 2 days later for our refund (we were catching a flight out of NY on that day). I was beginning to get alarmed as by this stage I had read the other reviews on this site.

During this time we were being delayed and stone walled by the owners partner who insisted it had nothing to do with him. We ended up contacting the Government Department in NY that handles tourism issues who advised us to contact the non-emergency section of the NY police to report this as Theft, which we did. About half an hour later two NYPD officers showed up (we had been at the cafe waiting for about 4 hours overall) and they questioned the business partner who then agreed that we would get a refund of the original amount when the owner returned in 2 days (we paid around $1700 for the alternative accommodation).

We returned in 2 days and after about an hour the owner begrudgingly gave us half of the amount of the alternative accommodation. I am currently in the process of seeking advice on obtaining the other monies owed to us and as well as taking the necessary steps to report this business to the appropriate New York authorities.

It almost ruined an otherwise fantastic holiday in New York and does not reflect in any way on New York in general as we found everyone to be great and friendly.

But I must stress this again, you should not book the Antique Cafe Bed and Breakfast for accommodation as it cannot be guaranteed that you will get any.
