B&B Didn't Honor Signed Contract and Walked off the Job:
On February 26, 2013 my family signed a contract with B&B Painting for the services below.
Replace 3 soffits.
Install new siding and corner boards on chimney.
Pressure wash whole house.
Caulk all cracks in wood and brick.
Paint all wood, back door, front door, and garage doors.
Prime and paint brick- no windows.
2 coats of finish paint on everything.
Stain deck- 2 coats- solid stain.
Paint Brick Mailbox.
Come back for touch-up by windows.
Total price $10, 375.00 (to be paid in 4 installments with a deposit BEFORE starting of $2075.00)
Of the above after window installation when B&B was supposed to return for touch-ups and deck stain (was probably about a 4 to 6 week lapse from beginning the job until coming back to finishing the job), they had still to complete the below, although we had already paid them $9.175.00 of the total contract amount at Izzy's (owner) insistence. Foregoing the agreed upon 4 installments (total contract) leaving a remaining 1200.00 to be paid upon their return.
Work still remaining when B&B walked off the job:
Second coat of paint on the back door
Deck hasn't been touched--not stained twice as stated in contract
No touch-ups were done after the window installation around ANY windows, and we have paint flaking.
There is still an area in the back (top) of our house where red (unpainted) brick is exposed.
Siding on the west end of the house is flaking where it wasn't scraped (and we anticipated would be fixed at time of touch ups)
The guys who he subcontracted out to repair the chimney spilled a large amount of paint on our roof ruining a section of shingles that was never repaired and now looks awful.
After the windows were installed, we waited for weeks for B&B crew to return to our house to finish the remaining work on our contract. Izzy stated his men were going to be unable to complete the job due to their age and inability to tie themselves off or use scaffolding due to the high slope on our roof. However, Izzy was at our house no less than three separate times before we agreed on them to do our painting, and he priced the job out ensuring us his company would complete the job to our satisfaction. He then began a search to try to find someone to paint the high slopes of our house for him (as his company was unable to complete the job- though they are a professional painting company). On June 11, Izzy found someone to paint the high slopes of our house. They came and spent some of the day painting the slopes. The remaining work in the section titled (Work still remaining when B&B walked off the job was still to be done); however, on June 11 Izzy was insisting on what would be the fifth payment (when we had agreed upon 4 payments total, and this request would stretch it to six total payments) of $600.00 that day after the men left. We told Izzy at B&B we would pay the remaining $1200.00 after the job was completely done out of fear they would not return to for just $600.00 due to the amount of work still to do. Izzy's company B&B Painting said they would not be back to our house without the $600.00 dollars, and they would rather eat the loss than finish our job.
At this time, I mentioned to Izzy how reviews on customer satisfaction were probably a huge benefit or deterrent to his company's success, and I would write one about our experience to let others know how this has affected my family and our house. As soon as I mentioned this, Izzy from B&B Painting said he would put a lien on my house (after we have paid him $9,175.00 of the total contract, and which I know could only be instated if he upheld his end of the contract which he did not). He kept saying that two could play that game. It was very unprofessional. Not to mention we bought ALL materials from caulk to wood to paint. Everything they used, we provided except for the ladders and labor. That was an additional LARGE financial burden we incurred in excess of the contract amount. The other estimates we received had the materials included in the estimate. This would have made their estimate even with or less than B&B's less expensive estimate. However, we agreed to provide materials, so this was our fault.
I am very disheartened at the way some people handle business and treat others. We feel we have been robbed and left with an unfinished job that we had hopes of being very proud of. I would really hope that if you decides to use B&B Painting you have signed in the agreement that NO MONEY would be paid until the job was completely done, or have him sign that he will only ask for the 4 (or whatever was agreed upon) installments. Izzy asked us for money weekly and at the end daily, and his crew worked around 4 hours a day (only) when the weather permitted. Please beware of these business practices when signing on to use this company. It is going to be a burden on us to try to have the job that Izzy and B&B Painting left for us completed.
