poor vaccine administration:
9.19.07:
My baby (15months) & I went for our routine vaccine that morning not knowing what was in store for us that day. The medical assistant came in to administer 4 shots (2 in each leg). The second poke was where my baby started to have a reaction but we're able to finish the first 2 shots successfully.

For the next 2 shots the med. asst. didn't have a good grip on the leg but still proceeded to administer the vaccine. While one leg was loose & kicking she held the pointy needle so close that she poked him twice (cause he was kicking) before the actual shot itself. Has good resemblance on how sewing needle goes in & out of a pin cushion -that's how it looked like.

And during the shot itself my baby’s leg was still moving & squirming around while the med. asst. had the needle in his leg emptying the vaccine following his leg movement.

When she withdrew the sharp needle my son got slashed across his skin (near to where the shot was). I also saw a lot of the vaccine dripped thru the side of his leg when the needle was pulled out. I asked & the reply was “I got most of it in” & she was quick on putting the band-aid in. I checked again in disbelief & yes there was a scratch & was bleeding. She was already out of the room when I went out to look for her & asked if she could somehow put something to stop the bleeding.

I later found that it’s not ok to discuss any complaints you have at this time while she has the alcohol in one hand to apply –she was pretty rough on the poor guy. My baby hasn’t stop crying nor was she apologetic & left the room.

I did not receive any reply/ answer from our pediatrician over my concerns of his suggestion to repeat the polio vaccine because that might have been the vaccine that dripped. I instead asked my friends if they can ask their pediatrician(s) for me.

We are no longer patients of Bay Area Pediatrics, San Mateo, CA. I can't quite gather up the courage to go back after that traumatic experience.
