Gold salon chairs with dryers, sparkly red walls lined with Toni home perms and tonics, lethal-looking Prell-colored cocktails. It's a bar that looks like a salon. Beauty Bar SF, modeled after Beauty Bar NYC, opened in the fall of 1998 in San Francisco's Mission district. The walls are pink, the cocktails are strong, and the hair products are ubiquitous...and don't forget to have your nails done, baby. Remember, beauty is your duty!

Beauty Bar San Francisco opened in the fall of 1998 in the burgeoning Mission District. Founder Paul Devitt enlisted Gary “Glitter” Hayes (R.I.P.) and Chase Marshall to convert the former dive bar, Sunrest Tavern, utilizing a salvaged interior from a Long Island salon.
