Tips

After being gutted by a fire a few years back, Bender's rose from the ashes like a glorious phoenix covered in tattoos, blasting heavy metal and drinking heavily even on weekdays. The Extras:
Staff won't sugarcoat a thing, but they will serve a mean burger from the kitchen (Monday-Saturday, 5:30pm-11pm). The simple bar menu includes chili and mac and cheese, each for about $6.

Editorial Reviews

Check out the grilled specialties at your peril, or get lubricated enough to kill the pathogens. Latter not a problem as booze is cheap and plentiful. Patrons range from sketchy to dirty to slumming bohos, but overall surprisingly non-aggro. Music shows happy at the barrel's bottom, but legit for all that.

This spacious Mission spot serves up a barroom blitz of guitar licks, burgers and brew.:
With tattoo-inspired artwork, random rock and punk band stickers, and general revelry in its dive-bar status, there's no mistaking this place for anything but what it is. Bartenders pour mostly...

Information from the business

Bender's is a Mission District legend. Firebombed into oblivion in 2006, its valiant founders rallied the troops, and with a cavalcade of community support, reopened just a year and half later, bigger and better than ever. Some choice burnt-to-a-crisp fire wreckage are kept around as trophies of the place's victory over tragedy, you will love watching it. Comfy booths surround the pool table...
