Danger:
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly at Briarcliff Animal Clinic:

Our experience at Briarcliff Animal Clinic was disappointing and it left a lot of uncertainties about the performance of this Clinic.

The Good:

If you have a cat or dog and you want to have a normal check up or go there for your once or twice per year vaccines, we would say the Dr. Hedge and Dr. Clay Phillips are your best bet. They seem honest and they both seem to care about the best care of your pet, and neither have adopted the big “upsell “ push that some of their co-workers have perfected.

The Bad:

We would say this business is run like a “machine “. It is very busy with both dogs and cats, and it seems like they stack appointments on top of appointments, you will probably get the minimal amount of face time with the actual doctors, unless they are upselling you on spending more and more money, then they seem happy to speak with you.

The place itself is very sterile and un-appealing for both pets and humans. Very few windows in the exam rooms, uncomfortable furniture both in the waiting area and in the exam rooms. Our pet felt so uncomfortable each time he was there that he immediately found the corner of the room and stayed there as long as he could.

Updates on your pet. Because our pet was hospitalized, we were told that we would get daily updates, and we did…………at 6:15 am each morning. So there we are sleeping or just getting in and out of the shower and Vet Acevedo calling us at 6:15 each morning with her update. This update sounded like it was done in high speed without taking a breath, and sounded like a Vet who was anxious to get done with it and then move on, and ofcourse an “upsell “ on something almost every morning. Don’t know about you, but I don’t want to make critical decisions on the life of my pet at 6:15 each morning. I did ask why they called so early, and Vet Acevedo said that time was convenient for her, because she was just getting off her night shift at that time. My thought, this is convenient for whom?

Upsell:

It looks like each employee has been trained to extract the most out of you as possible. Whenever we asked what something cost, we either got a roll of the eyes and said they would check, or they would quote us the most expensive of the prices. For example, in one instance of an ultrasound there were 2 choices one for $500.00 for the whole body and second for $150.00 for the area of concern. Our doctor pushed for the $500 very hard, until we asked; doesn’t it make sense to do the ultrasound on the area of the body in question?
If you decide to take your pet here, be prepared to be upsold on every level, in every conversation.

The Ugly:

After our initial appointment we got an email from Vet Elizabeth Busch, saying among other things that we may have to euthanize our pet. This was after she got the blood work back and spent 20 minutes with our pet. In the days after receiving this highly un-professional and highly unethical email from Vet Busch, we had the chance to speak with a number of Vets, Doctors and other pet owners. In ZERO of our conversations did anyone condone a Vet sending an email saying we should euthanize our pet. I have lost my mother, father and son, I believe I can handle looking a Vet in the eyes and have this uncomfortable conversation if need be.

If you wish to be treated like this, go to Briarcliff Animal clinic and ask to see Vet Elizabeth Busch, but we don’t recommend her.

Here is the hum dinger of all times. When we were picking our pet up, I had many questions about their bill ( you will to ). When I asked a Vet named Siomara Acevedo about some of the billing, I got the customary roll of the eyes, and then she said this.

“ Most all of our clients just give us their credit card number and let us charge on it, whatever we see fit, you should consider doing the same”

That was all we needed to hear from her and this business, we promptly asked for copies of all of our pets records and we relieved Vet Acevedo and Briarcliff Animal clinic of any further duties.

But, if you wish to give the open access to your credit card, ask for Dr. Acevedo, she will be happy to oblige you and your credit card.

Lastly, let us comment of the overall management of the company. After we relieved Briarcliff animal clinic of their duties, I put a call into speak with one of the two managers of the company. It took 3 days for him to call me back. I said, I wanted to meet with him to discuss some concerns we had, and we could do that off premises if he wished. His response was, I don’t want to talk with you, goodbye.

So, if you have issues with Briarcliff animal clinic, you will have nobody to voice those concerns to, or atleast anyone who can do anything about your concerns.

Present Day:

We looked at several Vets after this experience, and decided upon a Vet that just handled Cats, The Cat Doctor, we highly suggest you go there instead of Briarcliff Animal Clinic, here is why:

There are only 2 Vets there, neither are rookies and both seem very warm and accepting. They have constructed their office with a lot of windows and warmth and comfortable furniture. Our pet was so entranced with the squirrels playing out side of the oversized window in the exam room that he barely noticed the exam.

Results are much improving, which we will give partial credit to Briarcliff Animal clinic, but it is more us at home giving the right food and meds.

Bun levels have dropped almost in half.
Creatinine levels are on the verge of being normal
Our pet’s blood pressure was so low that The Cat Doctors suggested taking him off of the blood pressure meds.

*** Which brings me to my last upsell story regarding Briarcliff Animal clinic. Almost all of the Vets there pushed very hard for our pet to be on blood pressure meds. I told them, our pet has never been boarded and so he is probably upset and that is why his blood pressure is high, they continued to push to do blood pressure tests each day at $46.50 per pop and then give him his blood pressure meds each day for $48.50 per pill. I got news for you, we got our pets blood pressure meds for FREE at Publics, enough said.

All of this should cause you to think, not once, not twice but three times before you decide where to take your pet. We know we have a geriatric cat, but the initial visit with The Cat Doctor and the test results tell such a different story that euthanizing our pet right now, that it really makes you want to think what Vet Busch was up to. If we had listen to her, our cat would be dead right now………….instead each one of our pets test results have improved, some rather significantly and more importantly he is back doing some of his old habits and seems happy.

Think, Call References, Check websites and visit the facility before you commit to a “factory “ like Briarcliff animal clinic.
