Established in 1946, the Broad Ripple Park area has served the community in a variety of ways over the years, including being home to an amusement park and hosting Olympic tryouts. Broad Ripple Park is a 61-acre park on the northeast side of Indianapolis, bordering the White River. It offers a wide variety of programs and activities for all ages, and welcomes an estimated 150,000 visitors annually. The Family Center schedules scores of classes throughout the year in dance, safety, sports, fitness, arts, crafts, health, self-defense and other subjects for all age groups....

In the past, this site has been the home of an amusement park, carousel (now at the Indianapolis Children's Museum), a steam locomotive (now at the Transportation Museum in Noblesville), and it was the location of the Olympic tryouts for swimming in 1924, and 1952.
