Difficult, Litigious Company:
Stay away from this company. They sue their own customers and their subcontractors -- frequently. They have even sued the Boys & Girls Club. Since March 2014, they have filed 30 small claims cases, and this behavior goes back more than a decade. I spoke with quite a few people California Air Conditioning Systems has sued, and this pattern emerged: 1) provide poor service, 2) charge an exorbitant amount for the work, 3) if the customer has a problem with the work, take the customer to court for the full amount invoiced (even in cases where the work wasn't even completed) and tack on excessive late fees, 4) take/threaten legal action that would impact a customer's credit rating, and 5) never negotiate and instead threaten to pursue the case to the bitter end to harm the customer's credit rating. In my case, unbeknownst to me, they mailed the invoice to one of my tenants and then took me to court within about a month of the service without even making any effort to contact me by phone or email regarding my invoice.
Keep in mind that this company's competitors rarely, if ever, take *anyone* to court.
The operations manager for the business, Sima, is a former paralegal. She and her sister, Vida, who is the owner, were equally difficult to deal with -- something along the lines of "the customer is always wrong." I have not dealt with Vida's husband, Harry.
Needless to say, the actual quality of the work they did for me was substandard (to be more accurate, pitiful; they even started work at the wrong address before the scheduled time without waiting for me to arrive and without writing out a contract before starting), and the customer service and communications were terrible and derogatory.
