Camp Bow Wow

Camp Bow Wow was founded in 2006, and is located at 107 Woodwinds Indus Ct in Cary.

We took our 6 month old puppy to Camp Bow Wow thinking that it would be a great way to get her socialized with other dogs. She stayed for a day for the initial consultation to determine that she had a good temperament and could come back as a camper. She had seemed to love her "test" day. She was excited and happy when we picked her up and we felt comfortable having our dog in their hands. We brought her back the next day for a 3 day/2 night stay. Upon dropping her off she was housebroken and an extremely sweet, cuddly dog. We gave the worker 3 treats, 1 for each day, to be given to our dog to give her as something familiar from home. We realized something was wrong with our dog as soon as we picked her up from Camp Bow Wow. A worker gave us back 2 of her bones (not the end of the world, but it did irritate us a bit since the camp had told us to bring something special for her and that they would ensure she would receive one each day). During the ride home, she ran around frantically and cried nonstop. She also shook/shivered uncontrollably. She would not look us in the eye or "kiss" us as she always had. Before bringing her back in the house, we took her on a walk so she could potty. She did not "go" outside, though . Instead, she entered our home and pottied right on our carpet. She had a couple more accidents before bedtime. We were a little concerned but chalked it up to just being "out of the groove" and that tomorrow would be a better day. It has now been a week since we picked her up and this past week has been a nightmare. She relieves herself on our carpet multiple times per day. Even worse, she potties in her crate. She even pottied on our furniture. She has never used the restroom in her crate or on our furniture until after Camp Bow Wow. She also now barks at everyone/everything. She also bit my husband today when he put his hand near her food. Again, this did not happen before her stay at camp. It ended up taking several days for her shaking to wear off. We have an appointment tomorrow with her vet to try to sort out these issues and get her back on track. We are also going to discuss a lump on her ear that we noticed several days ago. I can not be sure if this is an injury sustained from Camp Bow Wow, but it seems likely to me. I know she was initially put in an area with much bigger dogs than she, however, after the first day at camp, their cameras appeared to be fogged over and I could not see any of the areas. She is an 8 pound dachshund puppy and she was in a group with full grown Labs! I can not express to you how disappointed I am in our experience with Camp Bow Wow. I can only hope this simple weekend stay that has turned her into a nightmare will be reversible.
