The Company That Cares!:
Last year was a hard one for my family financially. I was laid off from the job I had for close to ten years and things were not looking good. As hard as we tried my husband and I could not keep up with the mountain of bills and unpaid debt and before we knew it we were facing foreclosure on the home we had owned for eight years.
I recalled seeing Attorney Barry Miller on one of the local morning news shows talking about Short Sales as an alternative to foreclosure and I decided to contact his office and take advantage of the free consultation. At that point we didn't have much left to lose and maybe we could find a way to sell our house without just walking away from it and letting the bank take it back.
We went to the consultation at the offices of Barry Miller Law and from the moment we walked through the door we were greeted cheerfully, offered a choice of beverages and snacks and only had to wait a few minutes before Mr. Miller came out and introduced himself to us with a firm handshake. He took us into a private conference room where he asked us questions about our situation and really seemed to listen to what we had to say. Whether it was something personal we were sharing or just talking about the mounting frustration we were feeling about being faced with foreclosure, Mr. Miller was extremely patient and completely non-judgemental.
He offered us his best advice based on our situtation and then brought in one of the Client Services representatives to assist us in getting the ball rolling in the direction of a Short Sale. The young lady talked to us about the process and what we could expect in the way of having to turn over financial documents, forms that would need to be filled out, etc. She advised us that sometimes Short Sales could take longer than regular sales because of all of the entities involved. Both Mr. Miller and the young lady assured us that no matter how long it took, they would all be available to answer any questions that we might come up with at any time.
Our short sale ended up taking close to four months from start to finish and there were times that I was ready to pull my hair out over the whole thing but through it all the entire staff at Barry Miller Law & the Closing Agent were there for us. They were upfront even about the things that were hard for us to hear but with every step of the way we were treated with courtesy and respect and that is something that I both appreciated and will never forget. Based on our experience with them I can tell that their clients are more than just a file number or street address to them and that is what real people need the most when they are faced with losing their home.
