Where to Sit: Though the "Sinking Ship" parking garage crowds the view, the patio seating is a definite asset.

The atmosphere, all dark woodwork and right angles, is upscale but homey. So is the food: The artichoke, spinach, and fresh Dungeness crab dip is on the creamy side, but with a hint of spice to kick it up a little, an effect redoubled by garlicky toast with melted-on Parmesan. Collins' menu includes pork chops, but the fries can be too stiff. But a one of the many beers on tap will wash them down ...

If you're looking for someplace in the Pioneer Square area where you can sip a beer without having your nostrils assaulted by the stench of stale beer and industrial cleaners, you don't have a lot of options, which is why the Collins Pub is the only place I'll drink beer in the neighborhood. There's a good selection of regional microbrews and decent food, too.
