One reason I chose the Yorktown Freight Shed for my wedding venue was the proximity to the Duke of York Hotel, so guests could easily have a great time and then walk across the street for the evening. I tried to make a group block in September for an April 24th wedding, I was told to call back January 1st.

On January first I called and could never get in touch with Vivian Harris (the manager whom I had to talk to to make a block) She was always out, and never returned my phone calls and emails. 9 out of 10 times when I did call I was put on hold while in mid sentence or hung up on.

I finally got in touch with her and she took my credit card information to hold the block for me, specifically telling me that when guests came they would make their reservations and change out my credit card. She was rude, short, and wouldn't let me speak without interuption.

2 weeks before the wedding (April 7th) I called on a Wednesday to ensure the rooms. And she told me people should be calling and reserving them, I quickly called guests and they were told she had released the rooms on March 2nd- and LIED saying she told me this.She confirmed my rooms ONE DAY earlier.

On the phone she told me "I obviously had never been married before, and didn't know how to plan a wedding" and would not listen to anything I had to say. She was yelling over me accepting no blame and expressing zero empathy for the situation She is by far the rudest person I have ever dealt with and i'm not sure how this establishment is still in business under her as a manager. I was never allowed to speak with someone above her, and she has completely ruined my wedding plans.

I will not stop posting comments/ reviews until I can speak to someone in charge at the Duke of York Hotel.

NEVER stay here. Or deal with Vivian Harris.

All rooms in this classic motel face the water and are only a few steps from a sandy public beach on the York River. The furnishings include quilted bedspreads and reproduction wood furniture.
