Since it opened in 1965, Shoal Creek has moved away from an exclusive emphasis on Western art to encompass work from a wide range of American regions. The focus is on contemporary painting in representational or Impressionist styles -- for example, Jerry Ruthven's Southwest landscapes or Nancy McGowan's naturalist watercolors.
