Great FOOD, service and price!:
Amidst all the other Portuguese restaurants/cafes in Newark, this has been the best I've visited by far. The staff speaks both languages and is extremely friendly and professional. The food was delicious and according to my Portuguese boyfriend, was quite traditional as well. I highly recommend the restaurant for lunch or for dinner, both within the price range of even struggling artists as myself! Oh and make sure to try the espresso, it's FANTASTIC!

Authentic Portuguese Food:
This is the real deal, real Portuguese cuisine. The service is great, the place is super clean! Best place in Newark by far. Portuguese food at its best in Newark and has a great atmosphere for family or friends. Bring your favorite bottle or bottles of wine and enjoy a great meal.

True traditional cuisine meets traditional Portuguese warmth:
Katekero is a a beautiful spot to just feel at home. Whether it is your first time there or not is immaterial because the second you walk in the door, you're home. This is a great place to enjoy a traditional style meal with a great atmosphere and it always filled with charming people. One finds at Katekero very reasonable prices, great variety of food, and a staff that works hard to make sure you get a well served meal, a smile, and a place you can call home (even if its just for your lunch break). The Fado night's are out of this world featuring traditional Portuguese music and a true "family" ambiance. Kudos to Katekero for blowing the competition in Traditional cuisine. This place is a must!
