Neighborhood-on-the-rise Crown Heights scores another hot arrival in this stylish New American featuring a concise, midpriced menu of ubiquitous favorites (kale salad, Brussels sprouts) along with more unexpected choices (corned beef–tongue hash); the spacious digs are vaguely art deco–inspired, with exposed brick, tile work, vintage-looking lights and expandable wooden high-tops.
Mayfield is broadly American in mission, with an occasional Southern twang. The restaurant’s name is a hat tip to Curtis Mayfield, the soul singer, songwriter and civil rights advocate.
