Transferring out of the school was the best decision I ever made.:
This school is seriously a sad joke.

I was part of the "graphic design" program here from 2005 to spring 2007, the same time they first started the Nursing program. During this time period, nursing was becoming a popular trend and every trade school was attempting to latch onto it.

Someone said below, this school is a "fad" school. This is true as evident by the fact that they don't (as far as I can tell) even have a graphic design program anymore.

The teaching was shallow and the courses were more like high school freshmen classes. Like, if you could spend an entire year taking high school art. That kind of thing.

All of the "teachers" were supposed graphic designers, but never once did they ever showcase their work to us students.

The courses themselves were less than challenging. There was more focus on the tools of design rather than the intellectual side of the art form.

The general electives were a joke. Having taken calculus as a high school senior, I was forced to take a "math" class in which we learned how to add 1,2, and 3 digit numbers together...things that should have been learned in elementary school (I actually watched one girl flunk out of the course because she didn't understand addition).

The best thing that I learned at this school were the actual digital tools of design. How to use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Learning these programs did put me leagues ahead of the students at my transfer school (when it came to the tools).

Each teacher made us learn something called "conceptual thought process" which is really a work sheet with step by step instructions for "how to do design". For many of us, being forced to use such a document dulled our creativity.

Every assignment spelled out exactly what we were suppose to do. There was little room for interpretation. So when I switched schools and even attempted to do some freelance work, I was met with the large shock that in real life, a design project is almost NEVER completely spelled out for a designer.

I was so unprepared after I transferred that I nearly failed two of my art classes in my new school, simply because I had been "babied" by the teachers and staff at Platt. My friend actually use to call it "daycare", and sadly, that's kind of what it was.

Before I transferred, I was about to finish my sophomore year. When I transferred almost none of my classes transferred over. I entered my new school at the freshmen level and had to retake courses that I had already done at Platt.

Seriously, don't go here. If you want to get serious about art, design, animation, whatever, go to an Art Institute (I wish I did) or Pratt (the amazing design school in New York after which this school steals it's name) or some other school where their graduates have actually gone on to do great things!
