Well, where to start...We (Maddie's Garage - Hillsboro) purchased a manual transmission for our customer that was supposed to have a new bearings and cluster gear from Mike for about 300-350$ more than the normal wrecking yard units were going for, reason being is we wanted the best possible unit for our customer. We received the transmission AND transfer case, which we thought as odd as it is not a part of the normal rebuild process to include a unknown condition transfer case unto a just rebuilt transmission...We had already put the new clutch assembly onto the vehicle so we promptly installed the "rebuilt transmission assembly" onto the vehicle. This is a larger job so there is a decent amount of time involved, however after all was done and nice new fluid put in both the transmission and transfer case, we started the vehicle (on lift) and ran through each gear briefly to find that both fifth gear and reverse to be in-op (no motion/engagement). The technician checked all of his work and than we called Mike and gave him the bad news. We took the additional step of removing the just added fluids and immediately noted the magnetic drainplug had metal particulates that was obviously existing and NOT new as well as what appeared to be some amount of red fluid mixed in with the new gear oil, all of which pointed towards the unit NOT being rebuilt. Mike seemed very apologetic and assured us that the transmission company that he used, he had used before and had good luck with them, he also assured us that he would promptly take care of the problem and see about getting us money for the additional labor and materials that it would take to finish the job. We received the repaired (original) unit back the next day and installed with new fluid (we felt the new drained fluid from the previous day was contaminated). We confirmed on lift that all gears had motion on the lift. The test drive noted a high pitch whining from all gears and the forth gear shift gate was not aligned correctly and could easily go into reverse if you weren't very careful. At this point we determined that it just is NOT wise for us to continue further with this company/Mike and ordered a wrecking yard transmission from another company and lasted Mike for our money back and our old core unit so that we could eventually rebuild the original transmission ourselves for our customer at a later date. Mike agreed to send us our transmission and money back, but what we received was another core and NOT our original unit...this one had some parts added and other parts missing and we only received a check for the original purchase price and NOT the promised extra for our lost labor time and materials. All of these facts point most definitely towards dishonesty, if you sell something as rebuilt...it had best be as stated, and if there is something wrong with that product (all people make mistakes), you stand behind it and make absolute sure that EVERYTHING is correct before shipping it out the 2nd time as well as taking care of your customers inconvenience regardless of weather you think they will come back to you in the future...It's just about doing what is right.
