Used books (especially from scholarly and small Chicago presses), dog-eared paperbacks, and hardcover classics fill the shelves at this sprawling book lover's haven in Lakeview. Allow ample time to browse, because you never know what you'll find at this eclectic spot. Powell's also has an outlet in Hyde Park, at 1501 E. 57th St. (tel. 773/955-7780).

The SceneGeographically, this used bookstore is the most central of the three Powell's locations (one in Hyde Park, the other in Lincoln Park). The shop has strong medieval, ancient history and philosophy sections. An invaluable resource for South Loop students.
