My family and i have been depending on these friendly, skilled, and extremely professional quality people for over a decade. We always receive courteous responsive results, reasonably priced, and timely provided even in the case of emergency.
unethical business:
I was really disappointed in the way Dr. Robert charged me for services I did not ask for and would not have consented to.
I had one last cleaning before my insurance expired. the day after I had it, it looked like my gums were irritated. I called the office to see if this was normal and they asked me to come in and get it checked out, at no charge, in case they did something wrong. I was very thankful for this, since I could not afford to pay out of pocket, and would probably have waited to see if the problem went away on its own.
When I came to the office the doctor prescribed amoxicillin and said to come in two weeks later. I asked if I would be charged for the return and he said no. I cannot stress how many times in the process I asked if there would be a charge. It was embarrassing to do so, but i could not risk getting charged out of pocket because I really could not afford it at the time. I asked the doctor, I also asked the secretary when making the second appointment.
At my second appointment he looked at my teeth and said there was nothing wrong in the first place, just slight irritation from the cleaning process, that the antibiotics were basically unnecessary. In retrospect this is really upsetting, because I never want to resort to drugs unnecessarily, but i figured whats done is done and I was still thankful for the free checkup. Then before leaving at that second checkup, I asked again if there was really no charge, just to be safe. I asked the doctor. I asked the secretary. I expressed to the staff how grateful I was for their understanding of my situation.
4 months later I receive a bill. I thought for sure there was a mistake, I would call the office, remind them what happened and they would remove the bill. This did not happen. The doctor did not want to talk to me, i had to talk to the secretary who relayed my concern to him. She said since there was no note in my chart about a free checkup that I have to pay. since he forgot to make a note, i had to suffer. she claimed he had given me treatment at that second visit that I was being charged for. I have no idea what she was referring to because he just looked into my mouth, he never asked if he could proceed to do something, to which i would have said 'no, I cannot afford it'. there was no work done. the doctor was fully aware of my situation at the time of the second checkup, so claiming he worked on my teeth and charging me, when he knew i had no insurance, is ethical and downright cruel.
so for unnecessarily prescribing drugs, for not keeping his word, for unfairly charging me for services I did not know I was receiving and had to pay for, I would never return to this unethical doctor. He could have easily removed the bill, for the sake of admitting any miscommunication, since to him the sum is insignificant, for me its days of work out of my paycheck. There is no shortage of good dentists in Portland and i recommend you search elsewhere.
