The sign of a great doctor, is if he or she has good character. It's not necessarily how they treat their patients while they are in the optometry chair--any optometrist can ask "Which is better--one or two?" when examining eyes. But, as a seasoned optical saleswoman and owner of a small wholesale optical company, I can really give you the side of the story that one wouldn't necessarily be privy to as a patient. I have called on Dr. Roger Weikum as my customer since 1986. And, I can testify to the fact that he is a class act through and through. Of course, physicians are always nice to their patients who are their bread and butter--but, I can give you a "fly on the wall" account. Dr. Roger Weikum is honorable an decent. He's the kind of person you'd WANT to have as your doctor--because he literally lives and practices the Golden Rule. (Trust me--I've called on hundreds of optometry practices, and some physicians are downright rude and obnoxious to sales reps. But, Dr. Weikum is honestly nice.) He takes the time to find out how MY day has gone, how I've been, and always remembers to ask about my ailing husband. If you ask me, it's how you treat someone behind the scenes that matters--when you are out of the earshot or line of vision of a valued patient--that's when one's true character comes out. And, just as importantly, while he's always been warm, gracious, and considerate of my time, he's always been considerate of my wallet! This doctor PAYS HIS BILLS ON TIME! I have to phone other doctors' offices routinely, wasting hours practically begging them to pay outstanding bills. But, not Dr. Weikum! And, if that isn't an indication of good character, nothing is! Both he and his wife Jan are good as gold. After 28 years of personal experience, it's a 5 star rating in my book. Because Roger Weikum, O.D. looks out for his suppliers as well as his patients' welfare.
