employees:
The employees at this Shoe Carnival were horrible when I went. No surprise that the crew must have changed a lot in the last four years (since the last review was posted).
I won't make a big deal out of the fact that no one greeted me or asked at any time if I needed any help. Or that the store was uncomfortably warm, in the middle of July.
I stood in line to pay for my shoes for several minutes while a woman at the cash register held up the line. She appeared to be almost done when she changed her mind again, and continued to hold up the line for longer. I saw several store employees stocking, etc., very near where we were standing but no one offered to help the cashier or open another register.
Finally I stopped a passing employee and asked if there was any way they could open another register. She mumbled something under her breath and started to walk off. I asked her again. This time she said a little louder, "I'm not a cashier," and again proceeded to walk off. I asked her if she could find someone who could run the cash register. She pointed to a man unpacking boxes and said, "There's the manager." She then stood there, appearing confused about what she should do next, so I finally asked the manager myself if someone could open another register. He said the cashier currently working was the only one on the clock. I'm thinking, couldn't a manager run a second cash register? But I guess that wasn't an option. The manager did go over and help bag the shoes, etc for the cashier, and that's why I'm giving this two stars instead of just one.
When I did make it to the cash register, the cashier was curt and never once looked directly at me. She must have taken speed talking classes because I've never heard anyone speak quite that fast before. I started to ask a question about the price of the shoes I was buying. She cut me off mid-sentence, finished my question for me and then answered it. I pulled out my credit card and she started telling me how to use the credit card machine, without my asking (or needing her to), talking super fast and with an air of condescension, as though she were repeating something for the zillionth time to a child. She then pushed my shoes at me, telling me to "have a great day" with that same attitude.
I had been looking forward to buying some shoes that day and I had a thoroughly horrible experience. I don't anticipate going back to this store for a while. Perhaps in another four years they will have a good crew again.
