...:
I would just like to say that Southeast Pain Care doctors do not have a very clear understanding of lower back pain. On 11/05/2008, I saw Dr. Gerger at the Pineville location. On that day, my MRI wasn’t in my file, as well a drug test that was issued by the Morehead location two months ago. Needless to say, I was billed 1500.00 for a drug test that is lost; however, I was tested again at no cost to me or my insurance. Dr. Gerger never examined me that day; I was never asked what a typical day with back pain was like for me. He only wanted to know where the pain was located and read the MRI. I was told to lose a little weight and was issued ten Fentanyl patches. The patch seemed to work a little; however it wouldn’t stay attached to the skin for 72 hours. After leaving a message for the nurse one day later, I was told that Dr. Gerger wanted me to have a prescription for Hydrocodone 7.5/500. I was to take three times a day for pain. Now, this response totally stunned me.

When I saw Dr. Gerger on 11/05/2008, I told the nurse that I am taking Celebrex 200mg once daily. I am taking Hydrocodone 7.5/325 three times daily and Tramadol 50mg four times daily. I also asked the nurse if I could still take this medication with the Fentanyl patch. Her response was sure the doctor never said otherwise. Why did Dr. Gerger want to give me a prescription for the same medication that I was already taking? What was the purpose of telling the nurse what medication I was taking that day? However, I was more hurt that I was totally ignored by this doctor.
The Main reason I saw the doctor on 11/05/2008 was to receive medication that would last twelve hours or more, time released. I can’t take Hydrocodone while am sleeping at night. I could take eight of those pills a day and always have the same problem every morning. While at the Morehead location, I was given a prescription for a name brand drug that I could not afford by Dr. Alison. This was on 09/09/2008. Her response was that she had a free seven day supply for the drug. How stupid is that? What am I to do after the free trial? I was totally ignored again. This all came about when I asked for the Hydrocodone to be increased to three times daily instead of twice daily. In addition, I was asked to give a drug test that day. I figure that was when I was branded by the pain center as a drug addict. That is why I wanted to transfer to the Pineville location.

I have learned a valuable lesson about health care. These doctors don’t care that a patient leaves their office only to go home and suffer day after day. They don’t ask and don’t care. If they do ask, they won’t act on the issue at hand. However, I do think they care when they get paid by the insurance company after stealing from sick people. On 10/02/2008, I had an appointment with a local doctor. This was done after the episode with Dr. Alison at Southeast Pain Care. I was scheduled a one hour appointment with this doctor. He asked me a lot of questions about my family history and read my MRI word for word while underlining certain parts. He stated that most people don’t understand back pain. After that, he examined me for about twenty minutes. Also, he looked at the MRI films that I brought with me that day. Nobody at Southeast Pain Care ever cared to do such a thing. In addition, he was concerned about the pain that was affecting my daily activities. With this doctor, there aren’t any boxes to check on a piece of paper. I would tell you how this pain is affecting my daily life; however, Southeast Pain Care doctors have never asked or cared, so I won’t waste my time writing about that issue. I was abused by ER doctors for years while without insurance. I have been told to lose weight and find another way to deal with my pain. I was told once by an ER doctor that I can’t visit the ER anymore for lower back pain, as well as called a drug seeker. I was always told that my kidneys needed checked for infection by ER doctors at CMC, only to be drug tested. Do they think that I am stupid? In two years, I have never failed a drug test given by ER doctors. I have never taken any drugs in my entire life. During this time, I would get a good ER doctor on occasion. However, most of the time, I left the ER only to suffer day after day. I can tell more ER stories; however, you should have gotten the point. Even when an individual has insurance, he/she is still ignored; however, the doctor is now getting a fat check from the insurance company. At first, I couldn’t understand why anyone would keep going to a pain center to be injected with expensive needles and given pain medicine. I assumed having insurance would get proper medical care. However, I found out that doctors are scared to write pain medicine for long term care because of addiction. My new primary care doctor told me not to worry about that issue; I don’t have a choice anyway. Now given a choice, why would I want to depend on a pain center when I could lose my insurance in this bad economy. Guess where I would be given the fact that most doctors will not write pain medicine for long term care. With my primary care doctor, I have a chance to pay him out of pocket if I lose my insurance. What would the pain center charge? I got lucky and found a great doctor going through the yellow pages, and he is very smart as well.
The one thing that I still don’t understand is the fact that the pain center never seemed to be business smart. With me needing medical attention for the rest of my life with a lower back ate up with arthritis and bone spurs at the age of 39, why wouldn’t they just do their job and take the money? Are the pain centers so sure that patients can’t find a primary care doctor to treat them for long term care, so that the pain center can abuse them? Could it be that there are too many individuals who are sick, like an overcrowded fish pond? I may never know that answer, but the one thing that I do know is that Southeast Pain Care doctors do not care if an individual goes home every day only to suffer. Maybe they treat me this way because I refused injections, a sure sign of addiction to them I guess. Also, I never believed for a minute that my drug test was lost. They only tried to catch their favorite drug addict doing something that I shouldn’t be doing. How can you lose a 1500.00 drug test? If so, that only backs up my claim. Southeast Pain Care has never to this day ever cared or helped my back pain; however, they have been paid well for doing nothing more than stressing me out, ignoring my problem, and drug testing me. In addition, I like how a survey is given on the first visit. The pain center knows better than to give a survey after a few visits. Their ratings would sink very fast.

I have had more drug tests than medication issued to me. I am constantly harassed to be given injections that only work for a short period of time; however, it makes an easy paycheck for the doctor, as well as the hospital. I have been billed for over 2600.00 in just two office visits, and I have only received 60 Hydrocodone pills and ten Fentanyl patches for this amount of money, as well as sent home only to suffer each day. The balance was spent on drug tests and one visit to physical therapy. The exercise and just tuff it out approach is nothing more than poor treatment issued by Southeast Pain Care; moreover, it just leads to unnecessary suffering. I will not beg, plead, or bargain for my medication in which is medically necessary. I will never know what made the pain center treat me like garbage; however, I thank the pain center for pushing me out of the nest. I have found a new primary care doctor that seems to be of good moral character. He cares and takes the time to listen, as well as treats me like a human being. I believe in him. Is this what Southeast Pain Care is all about? Do all pain centers across the states act in such a way? A veterinarian will place higher standards on animals.

In all, I hope one day that upon getting paid, you think about the patients that have gone home with the false hope of getting better with expensive injections and lesser quality medications. You have compromised quality healthcare and compassion for easy money and a lazy lifestyle. However, people like me will always be exposing the system and will always know the truth behind the fake smiles and literature that you have written at Southeast Pain Care.
