Poor Customer Service:
I went to Spas by Renee on the recommendation of a friend. Renee herself was very gracious and helpful regarding purchase of chemicals and how to use them. However, when I called them for a technician when we could not get the hot tub (recently installed, not by them) to work, they sent a nice enough young man, but he couldn't figure out what was wrong. Instead of saying that, he said we needed a new "brain" and pump for the system and his estimate was "between $700-800" and if we had them do the work, they would waive the $95 service call fee.
Later that day, our next door neighbor stopped in and took a look at it. Apparently, two wires were crossed and he quickly changed them and the spa worked beautifully.
When I called Renee, "KC" answered and when I identified myself, he said, "Yes, I researched the costs for replacing the brain and it's going to be between $1200-1300." Then I told him that, in fact, it wasn't needed because it was a minor problem after all and that I hoped he was not going to charge me for the service call in which the problem was completely misdiagnosed.
I told him I would order a spa cover from him and hoped to be a customer but he said he would rather not have me as a customer because I didn't think I should pay for an incompetent technician who misdiagnosed my problem.
To add to my disillusionment, a friend found that the parts I allegedly needed could be bought online for under $500.
All in all, it was a very disappointing experience. When I told KC that I hoped he was not charging my credit card for the service call, as I would dispute the charge, he did assure me that he was not charging me, but said he did not want to do business with me in the future. I must say, it was not a pleasant experience for me.
