You don't have to be Greek to be at home here!:
Yes, it was a long time when I was a member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, but I have never forgot the experience. There just is not enough time for me to tell all the wonderful experiences that I have had there and I truly cannot think of one negative incident. Fr. Spiros was the priest then and he was quite supportive and so was Deacon John. I remember many wonderful hours spent at his store and playing with his cat.

While at St. Sophia I was active in the parish and did some photography for them, especially at the Funstival, which I greatly enjoyed. The following week I was stopped by a police officer for speeding and he recognized me from the Funstival and as a result, he did not give me a ticket and I greatly appreciate that even to this very day. I also remember some of the wonderful people who brought me food at the Funstival.

One of my favorite moments was around Christmas when three of the kids hired me to come out to their house when the parents were gone and take their photos which was a Christmas present to the parents. That was really one of my favorite family assignments. I was totally impressed by the love the siblings showed for one another.

I returned in the 1980s for Fr. Evangelos Pepps' ordination to the diaconate and I served as a subdeacon. Again, the love from the parish was overwhelming. Unfortunately Fr. Evangelos was unable to make it to my ordination. But thanks to him a 79-year old woman was able to attend. She had planned to take the train from New York to Washington DC for the ordination and Fr. Evangelos informed her that the ordination was in New York.

Thank God that St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church was there for me back in the 1970s.

Information from the business

The red-tiled roof of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church stands grandly on St. Mary's Street, and has been standing tall here since the 1920s. The glorious Byzantine architecture of the church building is a shelter for the Orthodox Greek community of the city. Besides the prayer service, the church also plays host to a variety of events. Call to know more.
