Tips

When to Go:
Try Mondays, when the bar features a very popular trivia night at 7:30pm.

Know Before You Go:
Plan to take a taxi home unless you expect to walk home with a group. The three-block walk down Kenyon Street to the Columbia Heights metro is poorly lit and frequently deserted. Taxis are easier to find on 14th Street.

Editorial Reviews

There's "no better dance-y bar" than this "off-the-beaten-path" "hipster's paradise" in Columbia Heights where a "great selection" of beer and some of the "best DJs around" keep the "quality dive" "kicking"; the "attentive" staff doles out "cheap" drinks in a "rustic" two-level space that "can get crowded", so plan to "enjoy" the "great" outdoor patio; P.S. Tuesday karaoke is "hopping."

For those whose tastes run more to Pabst Blue Ribbon than bottle service, the Wonderland Ballroom might just be the perfect bar. Minivan bench seats, a Ms. Pacman arcade table, and signs from old D.C. restaurants and record shops give the first floor a laid-back, funky atmosphere. Start your night here at the main bar listening to the indie rock soundtrack from the jukebox, or out back in the...

Your favorite college bar evolves. Same concept but fewer Neanderthals. Better beer, bands, and babes (sometimes). The guy with the hat went to the bathroom to check the tilt of his hat. Foot long hot dogs feed the anorexic. Best place to a) start a new east coast sound, b) find extras for your film project, and c) brush up against some dude's bushy sideburns while reaching across the bar for a...

Citysearch Editorial Review:
The Wonderland Ballroom in Columbia Heights is a neighborhood hot spot that offers as much fun on week nights in its bohemian beer garden and vintage sign-bedecked indoor bar as it does on weekends...

Information from the business

With an atmosphere that borders on dive, a large number of domestic and imported beers on tap, and boisterous live music, it is small wonder that the Wonderland Ballroom has become a local favorite. Unlike some of the trendier establishments in the city, this unpretentious bar offers a laid-back vibe with its worn wood-paneled interior and roomy outdoor patio (a great place to cool off after a...
