Buyer beware!:
We contracted to have the ditch in front of our house that leads to a drain under our driveway re-graded and wanted it filled with large "cobble stones" rather than common creek rock (a mix of 1" and larger round rocks) or rip-rap (a coarse rock) but our contractor could only provide the common variety creek rock. Undeterred we called around and located Tri-State who allegedly stocked the larger Cobble Stones at a premium cost of ~50% more per yard plus trucking (they're 30 miles from our house) .

So to make a long story short...

1) I called Tri-State several times and spoke with Ashley (Brunk) Vonderhaar - who we now know to be "a principal" along with her brother Michael Brunk - because we wanted to make ABSOLUTELY certain they had the rock we wanted. Ashley assured me their Cobble Stones/Decorative creek rocks were 4" and larger and that the only thing smaller would be pieces broken off while loading or unloading.

2) Our contractor agreed to let me provide the rock so once the work was scheduled I called Tri-State and scheduled three 6 ton loads of their 4+ inch Cobble Stone to be delivered at a cost of $1047.96 which I had to pre-pay by CC. (~$785 for the rock + 3 delivery charges)

3) Their first load/delivery of "Cobble Stones" prompted a call from our contractor. Tri-State had delivered common 1+" creek rock - the same material our contractor stocks! I called Tri-State and spoke with Tony - the person I coordinated the delivery with. He felt badly but said his associates hadn't properly explained that their Cobble Stone was, in fact, common creek rock. In response I told him Ashley had assured me the Cobble Stones would be 4+ inches and that's what was required. He said he'd call the owner* to see what could be done. (*later ID'ed to be another sibling, Jason Brunk, of Brunk Excavating).

The bottom line is: Tri-State could not supply the Cobble Stones I pre-paid them to deliver so I cancelled the order. Ashley directed Tony to credit us 2/3 of the amount charged thereby charging us full boat for the load they'd delivered. I asked to speak to the owner but he never returned our calls (2 to his excavating company and 1 to Tri-State) .

Net/Net - we were misled then charged a premium + trucking for common creek rock. This was NOT a good "buying experience".

The good news is our contractor was able to supply the balance of the rock required (albeit common creek rock) which cost less per ton and there was no additional trucking charge!

UPDATE: 4 days later Mr. Brunk's delegate and mulch yard manager, Gaylan (sp?) Procter, returned my call, listened to what had transpired and basically said, "Too bad." He did offer to send a truck down to pick-up the 6 tons of creek rock and they'd refund our money. There was only one SMALL "catch"... WE HAD TO LOAD IT! Now THAT'S customer service!
