Over Priced and Non-Responsive:
Below is the actual letter I sent to them.
I wanted to take the time to write you a letter in response to a recent experience I have had with your company. I brought my pocket watch into your store at the end of September 2008 to have the glass crystal replaced. At this time I was informed that I could have it replaced with glass or plastic and I requested a glass crystal. Not only did the repair take longer than expected, but when I picked up my watch, the crystal was plastic and not installed properly; in fact it fell out immediately.
No where in the process did anyone from your company call me and inform me that a glass replacement was not available. The price I was quoted and the repair receipt I received stated that it would be a glass crystal. Upon further investigation and after calling several other reputable establishments that perform watch repair in their own facilities, I discovered that the average rate for a glass crystal was $40 and plastic was $30. These were certified horologists that specialize in pocket watch repair. The price I was charged by Triple Crown for a plastic crystal was an exorbitant $63.00.
I truly believe that it was inappropriate to not call me upon discovering the lack of a suitable glass replacement and furthermore, charging such an inflated price for a plastic replacement that was not installed properly in the first place. The day I finally received my watch, October 27, 2008, one of my coworkers was going to stop by Triple Crown Watch Co. to have a battery replaced in her watch. Needless to say, I quickly informed her of your lack of customer service and inflated rates and as a result she took her business elsewhere.
Times are tight here in Michigan and small businesses like yours can hardly afford to fleece customers as word of mouth and return business are two items that can either make or break a small business in these rough economic times. I would highly encourage you to re-evaluate your business practices to prevent situations like this in the future.
