Sammy time:
I shop at this Vons regularly since it is in walking distance to my home. I have shopped at this particular store probably hundreds of times at all different times of the day.
What happened to Lisa surprises me. I have never had any problems like that just one with the Deli.
My husband and I had seen the stating that you buy one deli sandwich and get one free so we thought wed give them a try. We asked the girl in the deli if it applied to the 12inch as well as the 6 and she said yes. Also that it was any sandwich. So we both got a 12 inch each and she asked if we wanted to make it a combo for only 199 or something like that so we said sure since she was real nice.
Well, when we got to the check out line to pay we were charged for both. We showed the cashier the add and (by the way she is really rude I usually avoid her lines. By the way she dressed I think she may be a manager of some sorts) she said we couldnt have the deal because we got the combo on one. Ok so can I cancel the combo? We asked questions specifically so this sort of thing didnt happen you know. Well then she told us the deal was good for your next visit to Vons not this one. I told her we asked the deli chick specifically which is why we got two obviously. Her reply, it's good on your next visit.
So after just saying nvm return it my husband asked if we can buy and return and re-buy with the coupon which she went ahead and did after some persuading.
I really do like this Vons but they need to communicate or just learn what there specials are better. Not to mention what false advertisement is.
I am going to get a Pub sandwich from them tonight since I am now thinking about it :D They are Delicious!

more than 15 items at 8:30 am? go away kid, ya bother me!:
March 10, 2010, 8:30 am: Had the brilliant idea to catch up on grocery shopping after taking my child to school.
So I went into Vons on Santa Fe Dr. in Vista, loaded up my cart with the finest iceberg lettuce and probably 20 boxes of Lean Cuisine (don't hate...strict portion control *works*).
One lone man was checking out the entire store, his checkout aisle light burning dimly - unfortunately it was the express lane.
I asked very politely if I could use his aisle given the number of items in my cart, and he replied, "no." Then he called for backup on his phone. A disembodied voice immediately replied over the intercom, "Backup has gone home!"
So what did the checkout man do? Shrugged his shoulders, pointed me in the direction of the empty aisle behind him, and motioned to the customers waiting behind me. No biggie, I am a pretty patient person.
But I waited about four minutes (I counted) and no one showed up. So once the express lane was empty, I pushed my cart back there and asked politely (again) if he could now help me since no one else was coming to open the other aisle.
His reply? "Nope."
Even if I'm a paying customer, and so on and so forth? "Nope, sorry. Someone is 'supposed' to be there. I don't know where they are. And I can't help you."
Single-item customers were beginning to bunch up behind me, so I asked one more time, "so in a case like this, you aren't set up to help a customer with just a few more than 15 items?" and he replied "no, sorry, not your fault."
Needless to say, someone at that store is probably restocking Lean Cuisines and iceberg lettuce right now, because there was nothing to do but (a) make a further scene and demand immediate service (right, but not my style) or (b) end the transaction (cowardly, but more my style).
So if you're in the vicinity of Santa Fe Dr. in Vista and have a morning grocery-shopping urge, I recommend another store. And yeah, I will write the manager and let him or her know of their lame customer service.
