A piano player tinkling jazz standards sets the mood at this beloved retro steakhouse that attracts a young crowd seeking old Vegas. Mondrian-style stained-glass panels and Sputnik lights lend the otherwise beige room some flair. The menu is packed with classics, down to the surf and turf and creamed spinach, but all are turned out with a careful, if not exactly creative, hand.

The best way to explain AJ’s Steakhouse at the Hard Rock is this: If Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin were still strutting their stuff in Vegas today, this is where they would eat. In fact, patrons of AJ’s Steakhouse should be made to wear a pinky ring, hold a tumbler of whiskey and say the words “sweetheart” and “baby” a lot.
