I went to ABE Auto Battery and Electric as a referral from a co-worker. All of the fixes they did on my Toyota had to be redone by another mechanic. The wires were soldered in on a starter and the other mechanic and others who saw the work called it "homemade". I had problems from the time I went there as the wires broke and were barely touching. I originally had a good starter and they replaced it with "junk" and kept my good one which was not the problem. They also did a relay on my ignition which had to be removed and the wires were not professionally crimped. I needed an ignition switch which I had done elsewhere. I wondered if they cheated me because I am a woman.

I took my generator and starter for a 1951 Hudson to them several years ago when I was restoring it. I finally finished restoring the car in 2012 and started driving it. I kept having trouble with the charging system and finally decided to take the generator apart. I couldn't believe what I saw! The bushing in the commutator end hadn't been touched when ABE worked on it and it was severely worn. This cause the armature to be off center about 1/16" and caused it to drag on the field pole and shorted it out. They had put an new bearing in the drive end but had done nothing to the commutator end. They should have told me the generator was no good and couldn't be repaired, but then they wouldn't have gotten their $200. Also when I took the pulley off of the armature shaft I found the nut they had used to secure the pulley was the wrong threads. It was'nt exactly cross threaded but it changed the shape of the threads on the armature as it was force on. It took a lot of force to get the nut off. Then when I took the pulley off I found that the woodruff key was missing. The only thing I can say good about the the work they did was to paint in up nice and pretty and put a bright yellow sticker on it that made it look real professional. Don't ever take your work to them!
