Very poor work and cuts corners:
Had my 440 rebuilt by ACE: After a very careful break in period, and with only 500 miles, the engine started to loose oil pressure and run poorly: I had the motor looked at by another shop:
1: Scoring on main bearing due to trash. It appears this trash may have been present during re-assembly
2: Cam installed was NOT the one I had ACE order: Instead of a performance cam, numbers on the cam came to a stock/OEM passenger car type replacement
3. Cast pistons were used when I specifically stated NOT to use them in the rebuild
4. Bottom of the line/cheap timing chain set up was used
5. Severe rear main seal leak at 300 miles: It was obvious that sealant was just gooped over the outside rear main seal area with no real attempt to install the seals correctly
6. The original head bolts were reused on new aluminum heads during installation: Two of the bolts heads were rounded off during head installation
7. #2 intake valve spring failed, dropping valve onto piston
All parts were discovered (upon another rebuilder tear-down) of the lowest quality/cheapest parts that can be purchased. Not good when I specifically stated that I wanted specific, higher end parts from the beginning and paid for as such.
Short cuts, not ordering specific parts desired by the customer, and sloppy reassembly seems to be the order of the day. The owner will not take the time to listen to any problems, and there is no warranty on the work performed. Owner does not/will not provide a receipt of any parts purchased as well. Find another shop for your rebuild needs
