I usually don't write reviews..... This an honest review! Please take the time to read this. Yes Baja Joe's, your food is delicious but your service and hidden service charges rules not posted really SUCK and unethical.
I have been going to Joe's for years..... when you only employed 3 waitresses, 1 busses & 1 bar tender. The service was wonderful. Beers arrived on our table cold and not sitting for over 10-20 mins at the bar. Food was served immediately with a happy waitres. Now, food takes a long time to arrive and the waitresses are unhappy to serve you.
In March 2015, my family of 4 decided to sit at the bar section and our order was over $100.00. We paid the bill not realizing they included a 20% gratuity until reviewing the receipt at home. We called and told by the Manager, it is a new rule they have put in place for the bar section. "Any bill over $100 regardless of the party size, a 20% gratuity will be added. Giving that much of a gratuity is perfectly okay if the service is great.
BUT we had to pick up our own beer we ordered from the waitress from the bar, while the bartender is chatting along & our waitress is no where to be found. Our table side avocado was served 20 mins later upon reminding our waitress. That kind of service for 4 people does not deserve a 20% gratuity. To top it off.... She did not bother telling us that the gratuity was included already after we left her a $20 cash. The service sucks and our waitress appears to be mad all thru the time. Plus where is their integrity... not informing their customer. All restaurants inform their customers when a gratuity it automatically being added and why.
I thought to give Baja Joe's another chance and today, 04/14/15 I decided to order to go. Requesting some chips and salsa. Which they would have served me, eating at the restaurant. When I received my bill it was way over what I ordered. I ask for the breakdown. I was being charged for what I consider the size of a complimentary chips and salsa for $4.00. I told the acting manager this is ridiculous. I've been coming here way before she even started working and NEVER been charged $4.00 for complimentary size chips & salsa. She said, the bill will need to be over $25 for a free chips & salsa. This is BS..... if I ate lunch there ordering from their lunch special menu, my bill would be less than $10 and they would have served me chips and salsa for free.
I was so upset and decided to go too Serrano's across the way..... Guess what they give their customers complimentary chips & salsa with purchase. AND... their large bag chips is only $4.99.
