I had renters insurance with them since 08/2011. It all went fine until 10/2012 when I decided to add auto insurance. Darlene ran the quote for me but neglected to run my MVR record BEFORE taking my money to add the auto policy. A week later, I get a letter saying they are cancelling my insurance, of course after I'd already cancelled my previous insurance. Thankfully, I was able to reinstate with American Family, but of course I had to come up with another payment to get it reinstated. So, thanks to Darlene not doing her job, I was out $100. It took just over 4 weeks for them to get my money back to me and Emmett's favorite phrase seemed to be "let me get back to you." So here we are, I thought everything was fine when I get a letter stating that they were now raising my renter's insurance by almost $10 per month. I called to find out why, they said it was because I no longer had a multi-line discount. They renewed my renters insurance in 08/2012 with a fixed price of $20.08. They added the auto 10/2012 and with multi-line discount actually took my renters down to $15.00. So, since the auto insurance effectively never happened, common sense would say that the renters would be the price it was prior to the auto insurance fiasco. So finally after 2 days of back and forth with Emmett, I cancelled my policy with them. He informed me that I was unable to speak with all these people in billing and underwriting that he was able to speak with. I asked him to put in writing what it was he was telling me about the situation being resolved; he refused. Keep in mind, all I did was ask him to verify to the best of his knowledge what was happening and put it in an email to me; he still refused. The final time he told me I could not speak with anyone in billing I got off the phone with him, found a corporate number, and within 5 minutes my policy was cancelled and the automatic withdrawal due to come out next week was stopped. These were all things he told me I could not do. His office's business practices and ethics are horrible. I will go through State Farm again, but NEVER again through Emmett Thompson's agency.
