Do Not Work Floor De Lis or Mark Hughes
This is not a professional flooring company, stay away. We hired them to refinish the wood floors in my house, a service that they stated they could provide and were qualified to perform. They and their installer came to the house multiple times when working on their bid and were fully aware of the existing conditions of the floor. Their first attempt to fix our floors failed due to the polyurethane pealing and was worse off then before they started their work. They also got polyurethane and stain all over the base boards and had to be convinced that it was their responsibility to protect the surfaces adjacent to the floor that they were working on and that they had to fix the damage that they had done due to their unprofessional workmanship. The work took 3 days longer than they said it would due to their professionalism, lack of effort and a worker walking over the still drying floors with dirty shoes. He dragged which debris over the entire floor requiring them to rescreen and install the poly all over again to which they offered not discount or apology for the additional time that we were not able to occupy the first floor of our house.
They then came out a second time to redo the work and I didn’t this it would be possible but the work was even worse this time. This is not to mention that they were impossible to reach, Mark the Owner does not even have a working voicemail when you call his cell phone. They were late showing up, didn’t show up one day and needed 2 extra days to finish the work from what had been discus, confirmed and reconfirmed. This time the polyurethane which was to have a matte finish was pooling, with irregular finish that is matte in some locations and high gloss in others and again peeling up. We requested our money back and they stated in no uncertain terms that we would never see our money again and that they took no responsibility for the finish condition of the floor.
After going back and forth with this snake I finally came to an agreement with Mark for him to pay us 750 dollars and we would go our separate ways, this was an amount that is less that ¼ of what we gave them to fix our floors. After an agreement was reached Mark texted me and requested to change the terms asking me to remove our Yelp review without further competition. To which I responded that we had an agreement that this was not a part of and that would require him in increase his payment to us. He responded that 750 was his number and he would require me to also send him an email stating that we would not post negative reviews elsewhere. These terms were not acceptable.
Mark Hughes and Floor De Lis are unprofessional, unqualified, not respectful the agreed upon schedule, didn’t stand by their work and reneged on our verbal agreement, instead of honoring it, trying to modify the terms to be more favorable for himself without offering any value to us. A quick search revealed a lawsuit against Floor De Lis LLC for installing in a defective manner, The Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case number 16-07478. They were accused of “breach of warranty through failing to complete the work in a sufficient manner, failing to properly train and supervise the employees and failing to ensure that the work was completed in a proper manner.” This sounds very familiar, don’t let it happen to you too.
