Tips

Located in the space formerly occupied by Lotus, Abe & Arthur's still has the nightclub vibe, but it’s a very different sort of restaurant. Chef Franklin Becker (Brasserie, Sheridan Square) has been chomping at the bit for a chance to establish himself as one of the city's top chefs, and Abe & Arthur's gives him a major platform for high-end versions of American classics including fish tacos, steak, crab cakes and the like. These are all much better than they need to be to satisfy the clubgoers, who are likely just killing time before heading downstairs to the swank SL lounge (with which...

A big, boistrous, celebrity-filled adjunct to a popular nightclub, Abe & Arthur's shouldn't be good, but it is -- they serve some of the best beef in town, better in fact than some big-name steakhouses.

Editorial Reviews

The rub with many a hangar-like Meatpacking District restaurant is that the food doesn't have to be that good. Indeed, most people come for the scene or the people-watching. But here, the food is a pleasant surprise. This tri-level spot,… Read More

EMM Group Pulls Plug On La Cenita Steak After 7 Weeks:
Some very surprising news, as the EMM Group has pulled the plug on La Cenita Steak, a little less than two months after they revamped La Cenita, their Mexican restaurant with Akhtar Nawab. EMM partner Eugene Remm tells Eater:

After a lot of thought we have decided to close La Cenita Steak and convert the space to an events and catering facility. Mark [Birnbaum] and I continuously work to...

EMM Pulls the Plug On SL; New Concept in the Works:
There are changes afoot in the EMM Group's Meatpacking District empire. After a four-year run, owners Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum have closed SL, their basement club in the former Lotus space, as of New Year's Eve. This shutter follows the re-vamping of the old Abe and Arthur's above SL into the oh so hot Mexican restaurant La Cenita, and according to Remm, the company is just starting to...

The former Abe & Arthur’s digs in the Meatpacking have been transformed into this new Mexican small-plate specialist from the EMM group (Catch, The General), a sprawling duplex decorated with lots of exposed brick and faux Aztec hieroglyphics; it’s probably more about scene than cuisine, but its trendy following doesn't seem to care.

Information from the business

Located in Manhattan's Meatpacking District, La Cenita features a Mexican-inspired menu of shareable, small plates by Executive Chef Akhtar Nawab, formerly of La Esquina. Stepping outside the lines of traditional Mexican fare, La Cenita’s updated takes on popular Mexican dishes and unique renditions of lesser known flavors play well with the restaurant’s modern Mexican aesthetic.
