As the official state archive, this library preserves and provides access to more than 99.5 million manuscript items documenting four centuries of Virginia history—fascinating to researchers and less so to everyone else. Its collections include 240,000 photographs, prints, engravings, posters, and paintings. The building has free underground parking.
