Racist and hateful:
I had a very negative experience here yesterday. I dropped my girl friend off to have her nails done while I ran errands. I asked her to call me and let me know how much it was going to be since I like to pay cash and had none on me to give her at the moment and she'd left her purse at the house. A few minutes later she called me very upset, and I was able to listen to this conversation taking place between her and the manager with her phone turned on. Basically the Asian lady who owns this place told my black girlfriend that she had to pay first or not be served. She said this when she asked her what the cost was so she could let me know what to bring with me.

When the woman found out she wasn't carrying money on her, she said not only could she not serve her, but she couldn't wait inside there for me either. She had to leave the shop and stand outside on the sidewalk, where a number of shady looking pimp types were loafing around nearby, making her very uncomfortable for her safety. When I got there and found out the complete story, I went inside and confronted the woman, asking if all her customers have to pay first or only the black ones. I'm white BTW...I mention that because sometimes people think if an accusation of racism is made it's probably bogus, so you should understand I look really carefully before using the R word since I see both sides of this issue.

This woman had the unmitigated gaul to look me in the face and tell me a bold faced lie. She said Maria had told her she had no money and asked if she could do her nails for free. Her exact quote; "You know...yes I have to ask, these young girls I have to know if they will pay." Missing but clearly indicated by the way she said it was the word "black", and of that I have little doubt. Nail salons don't charge customers in advance, because for one thing, the customer wants to be sure it's done properly first. This lady was rude and hateful to both of us. I can tell she has quite a few black clients, and I'm sure they're not asked to pay first. I think because Maria was young, black, and dressed a little on the sexy side, she was categorized as a hoe or a thief or who knows what. In point of fact she's a successful model and could probably buy this lady's shop if she wanted to. It's disgusting to find this attitude coming from someone who judging by her command of English, probably came here from elsewhere herself. If you find this kind of behavior wrong, I'd send this woman a message and avoid her place.
