It seems like such a cliché to tell yet another story about a contractor that failed to provide good service, but these stories exist for a reason – because they are more common than any consumer would like. And they need to be shared so future homeowners seeking to hire a general contractor can make better decisions based on their particular needs. So, let me start by saying that all the work contracted for was eventually completed. Our concerns are focused on the process we had to go through to get there and the quality of the workmanship. My wife and I went through a competitive process to select our contractor. We wanted to enjoy the process of remodeling our home and selected someone that we thought we could work with well. That was the case until we signed the contract and sent the first check. Unfortunately, our project quickly became behind schedule, over cost, and painful as we found ourselves unwelcomely in the middle of disputes between our contractor and subcontractors that were not getting paid. That’s pretty close to a nightmare scenario. Why hire a General Contractor if these are the problems you have to face, practically from practically day one AFTER signing the contract. Then, it was only after the project was finally completed that we began to experience problems associated with the workmanship, particularly the plumbing. We’ve been hung out to dry by our contractor and must address the issue on our own despite claims that they would follow-up with us one year after the project was completed to perform a punch list of work and despite claims from the principal that is was in fact his responsibility to address the plumbing issue. I suppose his word is not worth much, and, fair warning to future consumers. There appears to be some significant staff turnover so maybe things will improve in the future, but it is our assessment that the tone and culture of the organization is set from the top so we won’t be doing business with this company ever again.
