Oil Cap was left off:
In the past I have gone to Sears Auto care for Oil changes since their prices appeared below average. They always bring up something else wrong with the car and try to get you to upgrade other parts (as do many car shops). However, the next time I went, the oil cap was left off. It resulted in car damages. I told them that the damages occured because the oil cap was left off. They did not refund any of the damages. I lost a lot of money for this and will never go back again.
Unethical Business. I also had problems with them doing Brake work. I sent the car in to get new brake pads and new rotors, about $600. The first time I drove the car after that, the parking brake light was always on. The next day, when driving I could not stop my car. I was going about 20 mph. After slamming on the brakes, it took a few seconds to stop. I brought the car back and they said it would be $200 for new calipers. I said that the service should be complimentary since my car had brake work done earlier in the week. I also asked why the caliper issue was not told to me during the "brake inspection", which i paid for earlier that week. They claimed that their mechanics did not make any mistakes and that the car's brake system was in perfect condition when leaving the store a few days ago. And that my caliper failure must have happened within 24 hours of leaving their shop last time. Then they told me to come back tomorrow, and that this service could probably be done complimentary, but no guarantees (after talking to management). The next day I came back and they still wanted to charge $200. Each time I went to Sears AutoCare (within 5 days), i waited 30 minutes to drop off my car, 30 minutes to talk to them, 30 minutes to pick up my car.
Bad mechanics, bad management:
Do not take your car here. My brakes were working fine. I brought the car in for a preventive brake maintenance. I paid for brake eval service and had all pads and 2 drums replaced. No mention of caliper. The next day, my emergency brake light came on while driving. Two days later while driving back to Sears, the brakes totally failed! Then they told me that the caliper was cracked and charged me additional $$. They claimed that the caliper failed the day after servicing. (Why did I pay for the brake eval service?) The manager, Bobby Lavenstein was extremely rude, irresponsible and unprofessional. Terrible experience.
