Professional Support. High-quality Gear. Expedient Shipping.:
I was in Sapporo when the horrendous 9.0 quake/tsunami hit the Touhoku region of Japan last year. Immediately following the mass destruction, news of the crippled Fukushima nuclear powerplant began flooding the airwaves. In those early days Sapporo (400 miles north) was deemed safe, but there was still growing concern as no one knew just how bad the radiation fallout was and fears of dirty air and contaminated rain became a harsh reality.

I began monitoring radiation levels in my area and also put together an emergency bag in preparation for a worsened case scenario. During my scramble for gear, I was recommended to SW Washington Surplus by a good friend. I spoke directly with Larry Good who provided very valuable information on radiation safety and also recommended a couple military grade gas masks which would provide my family protection from contaminated air/rain - if necessary. The guys at SW Washington Surplus expedited my international order and I received my package in no time - which is pretty damn amazing considering how crazy things must've been at the Japan Post. Oh, and they even discounted a couple extra air filters for me! I'll definitely shop with SW Washington Surplus in the future for my surplus needs.
