First and foremost, this place looks very nice, from the outside that is. As a resident of the building just down the block from the Spot, I bear witness on a weekly basis the ghetto/thug crowd that comes into this establishment Thurs-Sat nights. And yes, as the title alludes, there was a drive-by shooting that happened on the night of Saturday 4/25/09 into Sunday 4/26. During the day, The Spot caters to the biz folks that work in the area but for those of us who see what the place turns into at night, it makes me sick. They are losing out on good return business from me and others like me and rather opt for the ghetto-fabulous crowd. In sum, the Spot has much potential - only if the management sees through the veil.

I like this place. Lots of nice looking people. Drinks aren't watered down. Music is good, I like the mix of R&B, Hip Hop, Club, and Reggae. Worth a visit.

Well, I was asked to join a friend at this new location in Newark after she heard me saying I had a really hectic day in the office. We decided to meet at The Spot on a Tuesday night. I was very impressed from the moment I walked through the doors. It was nice that the doormen opened the door for me and made me feel like I was welcomed royalty. I was not happy with the parking but did have an opportunity to speak my concerns to one of the owners who came over and introduced himself and asked how my evening was going and how The Spot was meeting my expectations. Kudos to Leroy! Thanks for the intro. Nice way of doing business. Don't loose that quality. As for the appetizers, while I did not partake of any I was definitely pleased with the portions, smell and variety I kept seeing moving about the lounge. The music was very nice as I am a huge MJB fan and this particular night the DJ did his thing with classic MJB, Biggie and other R&B songs from yesteryear. I was totally feeling this place and have recommended it all my soror sistas so that they now have somewhere in Newark to have a classy first date or just meet potential clients for apps & drinks. Nice locale, decor and staff. While I waited long for drinks, I was pleased that the barmaid was polite and the drinks were not watered down. Overall, I definitely will continue to patronize The Spot and any chance I get to recommend it - without a doubt I will! I've been back since my initial visit and the 2nd time was just as sweet as the first. Leroy and THE SPOT Staff, please keep up the good work and much success to you all.

I too went to the Spot for the Grand opening and I must say I really enjoyed myself. A friend and I actually intended on going to another bar/lounge in the area and abandoned our original plans when we noticed the crowd.

We walked in and we were immediately greeted with smiles. I particularly enjoyed the music playing at just the right tempo in the background. The music was loud enough to tap your foot to but not obnoxiously so as to drown out your conversation, which was key. We ordered a couple of drinks and an appetizer or two which we thoroughly enjoyed.

The only complaint we had was the how long it took us to get our drinks and food, however PLEASE KEEP IN MIND IT WAS THEIR GRAND OPENING. So anyone with common sense could appreciate that things will smooth out once they get settled in. The place was a really good size, enough room to mingle, but my greatest admiration was the crowd it attracted (which was the main reason why we decided to go in.) It's really hard to find a spot where there's a classy professional clientele...Kudos!
