The unpleasant experience with University Cabana:
I am an Assistant Professor of University of tennessee, Memphis. My friend referred me to University Cabana and I moved in in Feb., 2007, but she did not get the $200 as the reward. I was told the policy changed then. But now, I see flyers for the reward everywhere. Interesting, the policy came back now.

Here is the bad story happened to me. I paid the rent for April, 2007 using a check, but I first received a notice for 'Nonsufficient Fund' in my bank account, this is impossible, I got more than enough for this. I print out my bank statement and showed it to the office clerk who is no longer workin in this office anymore. But, days later, I was sued by University Cabana for this, and had to go to the court, I was asked to pay the court fee and their attorney fees. The true story was that my check has never been presented to my bank, and I got the letter from the bank to prove this. I spent much money to hire a lawyer to defend myself. After I went to the court twice, it turned to be like this, I only pay the what I own the University of Cabana, but bot the court and attorney fees. But they refused to pay any compensation for my lose.

I don't understand how they sued me because they did present my check to my bank, this is adsurd.

This is really disturbing my life and my work. I had to took off to talk to the attorny and went to court. My blood pressure increased due to this stress. The office clerks are not friendly, and make such mistakes not only to me.

I tried to write a letter to the manager to claim certain compensation. I stopped by the office to talk to one of them about it. I was told that they were not responding. The worse thing was that she told me I still own them one month rent. When I told her she was wrong, she asked for the copy of my check, I was so surprised, this is outrageous. When I tried to argue, she called the security to drive me out of the office. Ok then, I went back to my room and got my checkbook, I called two security guys to go to the office with me, just in case she might do anything weird.

This time, she told me that I didn't owe them anything, only one of my check was still held by their attorney for last case (they sued me). When I mentioned her request for the copies of my check, she asked me to leave again, and she asked for respect. Only repect deserves repect, I told her she should be fired. The two security guys told me after we left the office that I was mistreated by her and I should go to the Corporation and tell the Corparation what happened to me. They are good people. This happened today, may 17, 2007, it's a beautiful Saturday.

Also, the service takes a long time, for example, the sink in my bathroom was blocked and it took days and days to have it fixed, not until you lose your temper. Well, this is a good chance for the clerks to claim your respect. Well, How can the tenents pay the clerks respect after all of these trouble?

Also, the pool is always closed, and now it is already summer. All the people I talked to think this is bad.

Although all these bad things happend to me in a short time after I moved in, I am impressed by the security here. I see security guys walking in the yard pretty often, they are nice guys.
