Velleggia's, ambiance of an enema, decorated like a closet:
We went to Little Italy and the first restaurant we saw was Velleggia’s. It had a big sign out stating the “Best Italian Restaurant 2007”. We should have known better because the front steps were falling apart, the doors were dirty and the entry area was nothing like a fine restaurant. The bathrooms were unisex and hadn’t been cleaned. The towel dispenser was broken and a roll of brown paper towels was sitting in dirty water. If the staff uses these facilities they will be contaminating the food. These owners don’t have a clue about running a restaurant. There were mirrored ceilings and walls. Some tables and chairs were old medieval style and others were beat up tables that you would see in a diner. They had large bottles of cheap wine placed in odd areas. They had huge dirty wine glasses with a champagne bottle inside the glass placed around for cheap decoration. A large Walmart style glass bowl was hanging on the wall and a string of Christmas lights across a window with only half the light working. The wood floors were dirty and in need of repair. Our table was old and sticky and, they were playing only Frank Sinatra songs way too loud. This place had the ambiance of an enema and was decorated like a closet. Tables had cheap paper napkins and no table cloth. Our only appetizer was calamari and it smelled fishy. It was a frozen pre-breaded product of poor quality and my veal was tough and thick. The vegetables were cold, prepared amateurish and might as well been served whole. Sodas were in plastic bottles to pour yourself and the waitress was nice but she was more like a waitress for a diner. Velleggia’s, please take that sign down. It’s a lie and people will get a negative impression of Little Italy. There is no way you were the best anything and I seriously question these positive reviews. At $120.00 plus tip for four dinners, one appetizer and no alcohol, we were robbed. I guess you need to charge more because you have so few customers.
