Our experience with 770-Tree-Guy seemed to start out ok as they outbid the next competitor. We scheduled a day and time more than two weeks out for them to come and remove three trees and grind stumps. From that point it was almost all problems. They were supposed to be at my home at noon on a day I had taken off from work to get the services done. At 1 pm we called them to see why they had not shown up. We were informed that the scheduled time “is just an estimate”. So at 4 pm we called again to be told that they would not be able to make it out that day because they had equipment problems and they told us they would be out the next day at noon. So I take another day off work to try to get the trees removed. They showed up at 4:30 pm after we had to call them to find out what was going on. The actual tree removal went smoothly enough even though they destroyed the mailbox with a bobcat tractor, which they promised they would replace and put up. They took the cost of replacing the mailbox out of the charges, but nobody ever showed up to put the new mailbox up. They also forgot to mention that we needed to have utility lines marked so they could grind the stumps. One week later after we had the lines marked they came out and ground two of the three stumps. Why two and not three? The gentleman who gives quotes claims that I told him not to grind the third stump when in actuality I had said, “Cutting down the two Bradford pears is my main priority.” So he leaves it off the quote. Shame on me for not going over the quote with a fine tooth comb and scrutinizing every line. Seems so very close to bait and switch to me. My wife and I both call and she sends emails. No response until days later when the salesman calls me to tell me that what I remember is wrong and that he can come out to grind the last stump for an additional $50. I told him that considering the problems I didn’t want to pay anything extra to have the stump ground. His response, “Will it make you happy if we can come out and grind it for free?” Yes. He said he would see what he could do. This is in stark contrast to the conversation my wife had with the owner at almost the same time. He blamed communications and scheduling problems on new computer software, delays on machinery, and it goes on. He took no ownership of the situation or try to work anything out. Just saying that they wouldn’t grind the stump without an additional fee. I removed as much of the stump as I physically could by myself with an axe, shovel, and chainsaw. The only proactive communication the company had was calling to ask for payment before the job was even complete. The utter lack of communication except for requesting payment was unacceptable. They seemed more interested in keeping a schedule for payment than actually doing the work. This was a frustrating ordeal that I had to resolve by doing the physical labor myself. Their website states "Satisfaction Guaranteed", but this obviously means only if it suits them. We will not be using 770-Tree-Guy again and will recommend that anyone looking for tree service look elsewhere.
