This cavernous, airy, Edison-bulbed and chandeliered space will feel familiar if you've ever been to Jean-Georges Vongerichten's nearby ABC Kitchen. This is the younger sister who likes to salsa. Start off with a classic margarita. Wines skew Spanish and Chilean and some are almost impossibly affordable. Two must-orders are the refreshing spring pea guacamole and the crispy fish tacos. But...
The followup to Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Dan Kluger's immensely popular ABC Kitchen is also located in Flatiron's ABC Carpet & Home building, but here the farm-fresh offerings on the expansive menu skew Latin, with elaborate tacos, guacamole, wood-grilled meats, margaritas and other cocktails served in a magical space outfitted with wall coverings made of seashells and fixtures you can buy...
The menu, a collaboration of Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Dan Kluger, rummages through the cupboards of Spanish-speaking countries in Europe (that would be Spain), Central America (mostly Mexico), and South America (although you don’t need to go to Argentina these days to find chimichurri). This attempt to reassemble the Spanish Empire does not shed new light on any of these cuisines....
