If you enjoy paying $150 and UP, selling 50 tickets and generally being nickel and dimed to death while the same five kids, including the director's daughter (who has NO TALENT) get all the lead parts while your kid is relegated to being on stage for four minutes, then Act 1 is for YOU! After trying four or five plays, it became painfully apparent that no matter how talented any other child might be, you could be guaranteed that if five or six of the same kids showed up, with 150 more kids trying out, those five or six would get the leads. While there is no denying that some of the kids are very talented singers and dancers, there are others who are just as talented but seem to be overlooked. The director's daughter, on the other hand, is a HORRID singer and dancer, clearly does NOT want to be on stage but does so for the mother and does not deserve the lead roles she gets in every production. I finally learned from parents around the Temecula/Murrieta area that this is common knowledge and that Act 1 is to be avoided if you want a real theater experience because of this very issue. The kids are discouraged, as are the parents, and they are leaving in droves because of it. You expect this kind of hand-picking when children are auditioning for paying theater jobs, but in what is supposed to be a theater "learning" experience, not to mention you are paying for the part, you expect better.
