I recently took an NRA basic rifle instructors course with Richard Moreno over at the American Academy of Protective Training or "AAPT" for short!:
I recently took an NRA basic rifle instructors course with Richard Moreno over at the American Academy of Protective Training or "AAPT" for short and I got to say that Richard knows his stuff! I was a bit skeptical when I saw the listing for $150.00 and the other courses cost 200.00 on up, but I checked the following week and saw the course was being offered by someone else for $150.00 also and I called that listing to get more information, when it was all said and done the course would cost about $300.00. I saw a listing for another rifle instructor course being offered by AAPT and I figured I'll look around first just to see what the cost would be and then I'll call AAPT so that way if they come up with a ridiculous price then at least I did my research and would make my decision then and there! This way I could start my training to become an instructor. So I call and spoke with Natalie whom I asked how much it would cost me to take the Rifle instructor course? Natalie stated that the course was $150.00! I asked Natalie is there any other fees that I need to know of; such as range fees, NRA materials or anything that she could think of. Natalie's response to that was yes (So I was O.K. here we go) there is one thing you will need to bring your own ammunition but outside of that the fee for our course is only $150.00 no hidden fees (so I said sign me up!) but just to be safe I asked her are you sure that's all? So the day of the class I get to the location and I think to myself (What was I thinking, what am I really going to get for 150.00 bucks) I arrived at 08:15 and the place looked abandoned the class was to start at 09:00am so I'll just sand around till someone comes "I hope!". 08:30 comes around a few others show up and I'm like "sweet!" so I ask them if they are for the NRA instructors course and they answer YES! OK still looking good right! So started talking with the other people that were starting to show up and in conversing with them I come to find out some of these people are previous students of AAPT and this is their 2nd, 3rd and 4th course that they have taken here at AAPT. They start telling me some of the things that they learned in the courses and then start talking about the Training Counselor Richard and they go on and on about how great he teaches and his style of teaching and about how much they learned (Now heard something like that about AAPT BUT really come on now these people drank the cool-aid or something). At this time a female unlocks the glass door and starts to unlock the gate and welcomes us in, so I say good morning and she said good morning and come right in. So I ask her are you Natalie and she said yes OK that's good and I go in to the office and sit down. I am not going to go through the whole day, but it was very informative, enlightening and yes I really learned a lot from Richard Moreno, now I don't remember drinking cool-aid but he did give us water and I don't know what was in the water but I am definitely in with the fact that Mr. Moreno is an awesome firearms instructor and I expressed my feeling to Mr. Moreno and told him that he is not charging enough for what he is teaching in his class. In the two days that I was there I learned more than I learned in the past 20 years of shooting and there are 7 others people in that class that will agree with and I with them! So this is why I felt compelled to give my YellowBot recommendation for Richard his staff and the American Academy of Protective Training.
Thank you,

Found a great and affordable security training academy:
About a year and half ago I lost my job and started looking for a new career I found that the easiest and quickest career path to take was in the field of security. So I embarked on a journey to find a training center where I could get my security guard card and exposed firearms permit. I hit the floor and then nearly hit the roof when I saw the outrageous costs from some of these places. I was sad and disappointed trying to make ends meet sitting on unemployment couldn't qualify for free training and did not have the money for paid training. Fortunately I refined my search and I came across this ad on craigslist for low cost security training. "Yes I know craigslist what a scam" but you can't fault me I was desperate I needed to work and I needed to pay the bills. So I checked out their website looked pretty legit they even had a toll free number so I called and asked questions and called and asked more questions after two weeks of calling I decided to try their online guard card course for $25, "yes i know $25 guard card" but the staff at American Academy explained to me that the $25 was for the required 8 hours of training to qualify for the Guard Registration they further explained that I needed my fingerprints and the cost for that would be $49 plus rolling fees depending on the livescan place and that I could go to any location and gave me the website to be able to find a location near my home and that once I took the training I could submit my fingerprints up to a year later. So after another week of thinking took the chance "Now I know $25 is not a lot but in the situation I was in every penny counts" I took the class passed the test and it took me another 3 weeks to scrounge up $74 for my fingerprints at a site about 5 minutes away from my house. "It would have been cheaper if I drove down to American Academy and did my fingerprints there" but never the less I was doing odd jobs in my neighborhood and was able to come up with the money but did not have the time. I called them to find out what the next step was since I had the money for the guard registration through the state. The person I spoke with Josh, was very helpful and he asked if I would like to mail the paperwork in or do it online. He advised me that it would be faster if I did it online. But it would cost more "So naturally since I am kind of tight on funds I asked how much more" Josh replied $51.00 and I said what $51.00 more I'll just mail it in if that's the case. Josh explained it was only $1 more not $51 more. So I was like sweet and I asked are you sure it's faster and Josh said yes so I agreed to do it online and he walked me through the steps as I did it. Josh was very very helpful and also correct in stating that it was faster. I got my guard card in 3 weeks. Since that I have actually gone to their location on Beverly and taken other classes such as Weapons of Mass Destruction, Report Writing, Courtroom Demeanor. I am also scheduled to take the training for the Exposed Firearms Permit for $100 I have to get my own ammo and don't have a gun but the upside is they don't charge for the gun rental and they provide you with hearing and eye protection at the range. No hidden fees which is really cool they explained that I would have to do fingerprints and the downside is since I didn't have the money to do both the guard and firearm permit at the same time I would to pay for the fingerprints again which was a bummer but it is what it is, but all in all doing it through the American Academy is still way cheaper than any other place I found. They told me I have up to a year to submit my Firearm Application to the state with my permit fee and fingerprints which again that is pretty cool too. So this why when I saw the American Academy on YellowBot which is what I used to do my searches I felt compelled to give American Academy of Protective Training my recommendation and say thank you for all your help and you guys were there when I needed it the most. Thank you Josh, Richard and Natalie. You guys are truly very helpful and knowledgeable and I recommend them wholeheartedly. If you are looking for good quality training give them a call.
