Poor workmanship and poor customer service:
Warning: Do not contract with Concrete Buy Knox. They have very poor customer service and workmanship. Also, during the install, they damaged my asphalt driveway and will not repair it. The company finds excuses to not stand behind their work.
In May 2014, I contacted Concrete Buy Knox to put in a concrete apron next to my garage floor and repair two small areas in my garage floor by the overhead door that were cracked. After the initial tear out, it was determined that the garage floor footing had deteriorated. Both Rhoda (sales rep) and Tom Knox (president) came out to look at the job. I was concerned about the repairs to the two small areas of the garage floor. I was told the cracks were because of the deteriorated footing and that they would cut out the cracked areas of the garage floor, put in rebar, and core-fill the whole footing the across the mouth of the garage floor. I was told the concrete repairs in the garage floor would not crack again because of the footing repair. During tear out, the crew repeatedly used a sledge to remove the concrete in the garage floor repair areas; not a good idea. They prepped the garage floor repair areas with some very loose fitting pieces of rebar drilled into the existing concrete. The rebar was not tied together.
When they arrived to pour the apron and fix the footings, the crew shoveled some concrete on top of dirt that was on the existing deteriorated footing blocks, put down some poly, and then immediately poured the apron. There was no core-filling! At the first sign of sub-zero weather (Winter 2014-15), the repairs to the garage floor cracked much worse than they were before Knox repaired them.
Also during the spring thaw, cracks appeared in my asphalt driveway right next to the apron they installed. I believe this is damage caused by the prying up of my old asphalt with their skid loader. There are 3 cracks, each 10” -12” in length.
Early in April of 2015, I contacted Knox to report these problems. Only after repeated calls, did someone finally show up at the end of May. After glancing at the areas, she said her camera batteries were dead and that she would return in a couple of days. No one ever came back. Again, after repeated calls, the same person came back around July 12th. By her attitude, it was evident that she did not take this seriously. She said that she would get back to me within one day. She never contacted me so I finally called again and was told the cracks in the asphalt were cosmetic and were the result of vibration and that there was nothing they could do. I mentioned that no large trucks or equipment had been on my driveway since Knox left in July. She said a car driving down the street 25’ away could have caused enough vibration. Yeah, right. We live on a seldom traveled cul-da-sac. I have no other “vibration” cracks in my asphalt driveway except those created by Knox that are within an inch or two of the edge of the new apron.
She also said the cracks in the garage floor concrete repairs were the result of the ground moving. I asked why the ground would move since the concrete repair was on “core-filled” footing blocks. She had no explanation but said it was not their fault. She then admitted that the footing blocks had not been core-filled.
It is now August and nothing has been resolved. I have done online research on this company and found at least 7 similar complaints (poor customer service, poor workmanship, and not standing behind their work). I wish that I had been more careful in my research prior to contracting with them. Concrete Buy Knox is also more expensive than other concrete contractors. I am not one to write reviews but am hoping other unsuspecting people will stay away from this company.
