If I could rate them with zero (0) stars, I would. Part of our driveway was sinking, so we wanted to get estimates from several paving companies. After speaking with a retired neighbor, who was a paver, I wrote up how the job was to be done. I can then show the write up to each of the other paving companies and then everyone was bidding on a job being done the exact same way. We hired BH Paving (aka Hicks Paving) to do the job, not because they had the cheapest price nor were they the most expensive. When they came to do the job, just by luck, I happened to walk outside as they started. They were supposed to “cut out” the part that was sinking, fill it in and then resurface the entire driveway. I caught them trying to do a resurface only. When I questioned one of the workers (the son of the owner) he told me that the driveway would be stronger this way. I then had to call my husband and he said they would not get paid if the job was not done to our original specifications. Unfortunately, out of all 4 paving estimates, BH Paving / Hicks Paving did not put the “cut out” dimensions on the contract that we signed. That was our fault for not noticing that but the contract did say “cut out,” so they ended up cutting out only 6-inches x 22-feet instead of the 4-feet x 22-feet that the other pavers were going to do. The workmanship of the driveway looks okay but let’s see how long it will last. We offered to pay less money for the job because we felt we were misled by the company. But the son would not accept my payment and threatened to take me to court. He also told me that I would lose in court because I signed his company’s contract. I also received threatening voicemails (which I still have,) telling me that they would come back and tear up my driveway if I did not pay them. But later that day the Dad (owner) came back and accepted my money as payment in full because his own son had lied to him about the amount that I was willing to pay. I would certainly not recommend this company because I believe they tried to scam us by saying they would do the job a certain way and then tried not doing it that way at all. If I did not walk outside when I did, we would have never known that they were not doing the “cut out.” We will never be using this company in the future. Also, we now have tar footprints on our garage floor and we were originally told that they would not even have to open the garage door.
